Don't Get Your Tinsel In A Tangle...

SIMPLE TIPS, STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY DECOR!

It's ok..we've all been there!

I LOVE the holidays. People are generally a lot more kind and in good spirits. The lights and sparkly, colorful holiday decor, and of course the classic songs we’ve heard a million times. (Srsly, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' never gets old...there's no debating this) There’s always an aroma of celebration in the air and who doesn’t love the days off work?! But on the same hand, the holidays are STRESSFUL. Planning get-togethers and dinners to accommodate all your friends and relatives with their picky palates and various dietary restrictions (your cousin just went vegan...again…”but for real this time”), figuring out what to buy your co-worker whose name you drew in Secret Santa, and the list goes on and on...

With all the chaos surrounding this time, holiday decorating should be the least of your worries. In our house, we always decorate the tree together as a way to bond and just spend quality time with each other. We play A Motown Christmas and drink eggnog (because the smooth taste of eggnog is even better with the even smoother sounds of the Temptations, amirite?) while recounting stories of childhood and sharing laughs at each others’ expense. It’s easily my favorite thing about the holiday season.

Bottom line, the decorating shouldn’t just be another chore you HAVE to do but rather something you can enjoy with those closest to you. To make it a simple task, use your existing decor choices to give you an idea of what your design style is, then translate that into holiday decor. Are you typically more of a minimalist? Or do you prefer all things glam? Whatever your style, let us lend a hand. Take notes from these festive holiday rooms and start making some fun holiday decorating traditions of your own!

RUSTIC.

Recalling sprawling mountain log cabins and fresh powdery ski slopes, rustic decor is all about the incorporation of nature in your home. Bring the outdoors in with natural elements like wood and pine branches that not only give your home the look of the holidays, but the SMELL of the holidays! Weathered finishes like barn wood and vintage distressed painted picture frames integrate the new with the old and add that hint of rustic charm. Collect your old mason jars and add ornaments, branches, and lights for an easy Christmas tablescape.

SCANDINAVIAN.

Hygge- (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special. What better way to describe the holidays and the feeling you want your friends and loved ones to experience in your home! Scandinavian design is all about the hygge which translates to simple, clean decor that is minimal and "un-fussy" which ensures more time for drinking, dancing, and dining. Simple pine trees and wreaths, crisp white and grey tones, and minimal sparkle can all give your home that signature Scandi style.

RETRO.

Why not get a little nostalgic with your holiday decor this year? Aluminum trees, kitschy patterns, and bright colors abound in retro Christmas decor and we are all about it. This style is not for the faint of heart (I mean HELLO flamingo pink trees!) but it definitely adds a touch of fun and whimsy to your holiday events that'll be sure to keep your guests talking.

GLAM.

If you're a fan of a little sparkle, then glam is just the way to go this holiday season! What better way to evoke the feeling of a crisp winter night full of stars than to add beautiful, glittery finishes all throughout your home? Whatever color palette you choose, from classic black and white, to champagne and blush, punch it up with rich metallics and crystal in the form of ornaments or pine cones. Weave strands of pearls or crystals through your garland for a little extra twinkle or hang ornaments from your chandelier for maximum holiday drama. Don't be afraid to get a little 'extra' because what's glam without a little excess?  We wait ALL year for the Christmas season and boring is NOT an option.
