TOP 5 DECOR TRENDS OF 2018

Well...here we are. We've made it almost 2 complete months into the year! Are you totally killin' 2018 or do you feel like you already need to throw the whole year away? I hope you're totally crushing your new year and even if you're not, walk around like you OWN IT...I won't tell.

I am still on a high from the beauty, Afrofuturism, and BLACK EXCELLENCE of Marvel's Black Panther that came out last weekend. Totally bummed that I didn't get to go with a big group and wear my ball gown like I planned(yes...ball. gown.) but it was a great experience nonetheless! Anywho, its been pretty gloomy here in Houston so I thought I'd roll out some fresh decor inspiration to help break up the monotony of these dull days. Enjoy!

1. MONOCHROMATIC DECOR

Decor consisting of only one color can sound boring but these rooms are anything but! One way to maximize the potential of this style is to look for varied hues within the color and play up textures to keep it from being too "one-note."

2. MIXED METALS

Don't call the fashion police on me, please! Mixing metals was once seen as taboo, but it's 2018 and rules are made to be BROKEN. The key to achieve the look is to ensure that the metals are interspersed throughout the room so they're allowed to compliment each other, rather can compete.

3. STATEMENT CEILINGS

White ceilings are so SNORE. Who said the walls got to always be the star? I mean, it ain't no fun if the ceilings can't have none! So take the drama to the 5th wall of your home with bold colors, fun patterns, and even a little reflection. I personally love this trend because what's cooler than lying in bed looking up a totally awesome striped ceiling?!

4. PATTERNED LAMPSHADES

Lampshades are sometimes forgotten in the decorating process. White, black, or some other neutral seems to be the typical choice but this year we're seeing more funky and ornamental lampshades. These add a little more fun and whimsy to your room, and maybe that extra pop of color to truly set your space apart. So don't be afraid to get a little shady *wink wink*

5. TERRAZZO

I know, I know...you're probably thinking the way I did when I started seeing that terrazzo was the new wave BUT this forgotten flooring is so much more stylish than your elementary school tile from back in the day! Terrazzo has officially made a comeback and I'm totally here for it. To make this look more modern, designers are opting for a larger scale terrazzo in fun and on-trend color palettes. Keep the look clean with a large scale terrazzo countertop or go all out and put it on every surface in your bathroom. Ball out!
