5 Easy Summer Decorating Tricks...
SUN'S OUT, BUNS OUT...
Ok not literally...put your pants back on silly goose LOL. We’ve finally made it to spring and holy crap...what a winter! Idk about you but here in Houston we got snow not once, but TWICE. If you know anything about Houstonians you can just imagine the type of shutdown the city was on for those couple of days. But now that spring has sprung and the sun has come to play, it's time to make some decor changes in your favorite spaces!
If you’re anything like me, your decor goes through more changes than the contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race (and btw I seriously can’t get enough of that show.) So I’m always switching throw blankets, adding new pillows, rotating artwork, etc. but if you’re more of the “only on special occasions” type of decorator I have just 5 easy tricks to bring the summa summa time to your home so you can sit back and unwind.
1. BRING ON SOME COLOR!
Switching out the rich, moody, jewel tones of fall and winter for bright and colorful prints & textures in your space will have you feeling the summery vibe. Find some of my fun favorites here. Pro-tip: throw pillow covers are an easy way to switch up your look without having to spend an arm and a leg!
2. GET FRUITY.
If you giggled at the title then you're probably childish and a little goofy like me and we'd most likely be friends. But seriously...FRUIT!
Using simple brightly colored fruit in clear vases is an easy way to jazz up your floral arrangements! Worried about those lemons going bad? Find affordable plastic alternatives here to give you the easy breezy look of summer all season long!
3. CHANGE THOSE DRAPES.
So this one is a little different. If you live in Houston or any city that sees the temp skyrocket during the summer months, you know that it can get HOT in the house. Windows are basically giant holes in your home for air to either come in, or flow out. Either way, adding thermal blackout drapes to your windows will block some of that nasty heat and sunlight for those days when its boiling out and you’d rather cocoon in your bed binge-watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Find some pretty alternatives here.
4. FAUX FASHO.
I may get a little bit of hate for this, but with faux flowers getting harder and harder to spot I find myself kinda digging them a little. Now I’ll always be “team fresh” but I can see the value of silk flowers/ plants during the summer months for the cost effectiveness. If you travel heavily during summer months, silk plants will be your best friend and will still look just as fab when you get back from holiday. Project 62 has a TON of stylish faux flowers and plants to choose from.
5. take it outside.
Lets face it, we’ve been cooped up in our homes. Dressed in layer upon layer of thermal this and wool that, and we have had enough! Summer is the time to get outside and soak up all the beautiful sunshine that has eluded us throughout the winter months, so take that unused space in your backyard or patio and dress it up! Adding patio furniture, lights, and playful colors can make any backyard into the ultimate party place. Joss & Main has lots of amazing decor at good prices, find your perfect outdoor decor here!
